Indigenus Launches the Petra Collection by Fernando Mastrangelo
Indigenus, the South African brand celebrated for its sculptural architectural planters, proudly announces the release of its latest collection – Petra – a bold and striking range designed by acclaimed artist and collectible furniture designer Fernando Mastrangelo.
The Petra Collection is the result of an exceptional collaboration, merging Mastrangelo’s distinct sculptural language with Indigenus’s commitment to refined craftsmanship and natural materials. Inspired by the timeless interplay between geometry and organic formations, Petra explores contrast in its purest form: the classic drum shape is intersected by rich, rock-like textures reminiscent of stratified landscapes and eroded earth.
“This collection offers a fresh perspective on planters,” says Fernando Mastrangelo. “We’re moulding directly from an original cast piece using coal, silica, sand, and other crushed materials while incorporating sculptural elements rarely seen in this area of design. To me, design is about creating sculptures that people can live with and use, and this collection pushes that concept forward in an exciting new direction.”
Each piece in the collection – available in a selection of rich earthy tones including Nutmeg and Mushroom – is a functional work of art. With options like Petra Tall, Petra Medium and Petra Small, these planters bring tactile beauty and grounded elegance to both indoor and outdoor environments.
“The Petra has proven to be the most complex design to bring to life,” says Peter van der Post, Founder of Indigenus. “It is eclectic, pushing the boundaries of what Indigenus has previously created. The result is a far more demanding aesthetic and ultimately a disruptive design for a planter.”
