Louis Erard continues its journey into the art of grand-feu enamel timepieces with a new limited edition of a three-hand model. The Excellence Emaille Grand Feu, first introduced in 2021, returns in a contemporary classic with some red touches and a 39-mm stainless steel case.
Grand-feu enamel is a time-honored craft that requires a high amount of experience. Every color is based on a fine powder and burnt in in several steps in a kiln at high temperatures over 800°C. The three colors of the dial – white for the background, blue for the Roman numerals, and red touches at 12 o’clock and in the subsidiary seconds – are processed individually. The ensemble makes for a magnificent background for the brand’s signature fir tree hands in blued steel.
The effort is worth it. The colors preserve their brilliance for centuries. The dial of the Excellence Emaille Grand Feu II are produced at Donzé Cadrans, a specialist based in Le Locle.
Limited to 99 pieces, the debutante is equipped with an automatic Sellita SW261-1 caliber which highlights traditional finishing techniques and a personalized Louis Erard oscillating weight. The price is marked at CHF 3,900, or about $4,130 USD.
