The amfAR gala is a high-profile fundraising event for amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research, an international nonprofit organization dedicated to the support of HIV/AIDS research, prevention, and education programs. Founded in 1985 by human rights activist Mathilde Krim and fashion industry leaders, amfAR has investments in over 200 programs in 40 countries providing treatment and care to millions of people living with HIV.
