Hotel Dame Des Arts

ABOUT HÔTEL DAME DES ARTS

A deluxe 109-bedroom design-inspired hotel, Hôtel Dame Des Arts enjoyed its grand opening in 2023. Jetclass Group had the honour of being invited to produce and supply bespoke furniture and carpentry for this incredible project. Raphael Navot was the designer who conceived all the decoration.

The internationally renowned Paris-based designer Raphael Navot, who has recently been named ‘Designer of the Year’ at the esteemed Maison&Objet Awards for 2023, has crafted the interiors, including the guest bedrooms, bathrooms, balconies, rooftop bar, corridors, lobby, restaurant with an adjacent garden courtyard, meeting room, gym and a spa treatment room with sauna. Jetclass Group took care of the manufacturing in its facilities, based in the north of Portugal.

The hotel, a former theatre school in the 1950s, is in the heart of Saint-Germain on the famous left bank, a stone’s throw from Notre Dame Cathedral. With its lush and tranquil ground floor garden courtyard, and bright open-air rooftop bar, complete with extraordinary views of Paris, it is in the heart of the City of Light and provides a breath of fresh air right in the middle of it all.

Located close to the River Seine and in the artsy ‘Quartier Latin’ area of Paris’s Rive Gauche, Hôtel Dame Des Arts is also a member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest independent hotel brand.

ATMOSPHERE

The hotel is like a set in a Nouvelle Vague movie, with the guests and team all playing their parts. The interior design, decor, music curation and scent are an ode to the five senses, and the people, all add to the atmosphere of a hotel that is ultimately an immersion in the spirit of the Left Bank – one embracing passion, nonconformism and elegance. The concept although with Paris at its heart, also infuses other cultures, genres and nuances throughout the design and experiences featured.

DESIGN

Taking the history of the local artists who lived and thrived in the area, interior designer, Raphael Navot has used this as his inspiration for the overall aesthetic feel throughout the 1950s built building. His vision celebrates the innovative establishment of France’s culture base from yesteryear – the marriage of philosophy, art, music and the gathering of talented minds in a social setting.

Raphael, through his design within the hotel, has encapsulated the concept ‘of an international artist in France’. With an intention to create a sense of wonder and discovery artists would have felt being in the heart of a location where something cutting-edge, diverse and liberal took place back in the 1920s and continues to thrive now in the local community of St Germain. It also conveys the film industry genre of the time, and this can be seen and felt in some of the hotel’s touchpoints, heavier typography on creative materials and art pieces. Raphael has purposely retained an elegant Parisian flair in his design and brought some industrial touches to the inviting yet minimalistic guest rooms.

INTERESTING DESIGN ELEMENTS

Everything has been made bespoke with the exception of two chairs which were sourced from Raphael Navot’s range for Roche Bobois – DOT and Identities

A signature element of the hotel is a fluted ‘demi cylindre’ design in solid oak covering some of the walls in various public spaces and in the guest rooms

The floor, designed by Raphael is Black Oak. The wood is charred with a flame to blacken and then covered in a protective resin

The art in the hotel has been specially curated by experts who have sourced genuine pieces (700 pieces) with links to Saint Germain. As such every room has its own unique collection.

The original 1950s window frames are historically listed they contrast neighbouring buildings vividly, yet in comparison allow in much more light.
